I love patchouli , in every way possible . Weirdly , I never realized how much I love it until I bought DSH Vintage Patchouly about a year ago . I wear Dawn's creation almost every night to bed ( the Captain never fails to say " that smells good " when I put it on...). I'm on my second bottle , and I use the shower soap and lotion too . Love ya Dawn !
I went on a binge , sampling every patchouli fragrance I could find . There is yet to be any that top Vintage Patchouly , but a few of the samples I tested for the Summer of Patchouli Love Project came close .
We recieved the sample vials marked only with numbers , testing blind , not knowing the name of the fragrance nor the perfumer behind it . Number five was immediate YUMMM , pine forest and earth and really good . However I decided it wasn't original - reminding me of something else - so it didn't make it into my top three .
Number six was weird - high pitched with too much citrus ( lime ? )
Number ten got a yuck - I don't want to smell like a camp fire ( alot of people will love this one . )
A couple of them got the same comment in my notes - too muddy...I may learn to appreciate them after more wearings ( Number seven and Number twelve ) .
There was one winner at the top , and two close seconds , and Number five was in fourth place . All four of those would be FB worthy for me and I can't wait to find out the perfumers and the names of the fragrances !
Do you want to know my top three ?

Top three! Top three! Top three!! C'mon Carol, don't hold out on us...
I've always been a patch fan, and you know I've explored a lot of patch fragrances over the last year or two. Because you've so consistently praised Dawn's Vintage Patchouly, I finally bought a bottle and received it a couple of weeks ago. Oh my! Well, I just knew I would love it, and I do!
But still...there are more patchoulis out there... :-)
I've enjoyed reading about the Summer of Patchouli Love project.
Good Morning my Queen !
I'm so glad you love the Vintage Patchouly...
there is a story I have not told you . It was a couple years ago when a sample of it first came to me . I was packing up some patchouli samples to send to YOU , our first swap I think , and I put Vintage P. in there , but at the last second , decided to sniff it first , and OH mY GOD I was gobsmacked . Suffice it to say you didn't get that sample back then , I ordered a bottle and hoarded the sample !!!
Will post my top three this week . P. L . A. P. !!
Carol, who would blame you for keeping it? Not I. And now we are both deeply in love with Dawn's fabulous creation. All's well...
This was fun to read. :) It reminded me of one of those process of elimination puzzles.
So...your top 3 has to come from #1, 2, 3, 4, 8, or 11. (I remember reading in one of the other Patch Bunnies' blogs that there is no number 9.)
Can't wait to hear your verdict!
Oh wait, there's a number 13 as well! (and possibly a number 14?) I was never good at math.
I want to know too! :)
I can't wait for the moment when numbers get attributed to perfumers. :D
Yes! Of course! While you and I seem to be just a bit out of synch with each other in our perfume loves, I have a patchouli essential oil blend - it was pre-blended in the bottle, not one of mine - that I've always loved. I'm doing up a package for you anyway, so I'll stick some in.
Hugs,
Donna
That was supposed to be "Rappleyea" obviously. The screen went blank and put it up before I finished typing.
Yes, there's a 13 and a 14.... hmmm...Carol you tease! What will she pick? And why? What else is in those patchouli perfumes besides patchouli???
