Holiday Plans

How can this be ? November is here and I am planning Thanksgiving Dinner for our ever growing family .
The first thing I had to do was buy a large emough tablecloth for my gi-normous Dining Room table . I am crocheting an ecru lace cloth that eventually will be an heirloom . But not this year - I will have to crochet another seven hundred rosettes before I can stich them all together...you get the idea !
The instuctions call for two different rosettes , one larger and one smaller , but I am going to make them all large . The finished cloth will be about 51 X 120 inches , about 750 rosettes .
Starting at center, ch 8, join with sl st.

Rnd 1: Ch 5, (tr in ring, ch 1) 15 times. Join to 4th ch of ch-5.
Rnd 2: Sl st in next sp, ch 7; (tr in next ch-1 sp, ch 3) 15 times. Join to 4th ch of ch-7.
Rnd 3: Sc in next sp, ch 4, 3 tr in same sp, holding back the last loop of each tr on hook;
thread over and draw through all loops on hook, ch 1 to fasten (a cluster), * Ch 4, 4 tr in
next sp, holding back the last loop of each tr on hook; finish as for a cluster. Repeat from
* around. Join last ch-4 to tip of first cluster.
Rnd 4: Ch 6, * sc in next sp, ch 3, dc in tip of next cluster, ch 3. Repeat from * around; join
last ch-3 to 3rd ch of ch-6.
Rnd 5: Ch 10, * dc in next dc, ch 7. Repeat from * around. Join last ch-7 to 3rd ch of ch-10.
Rnd 6: Ch 6, tr in same place as sl st, * 7 dc in next ch-7 sp, in next dc make tr, ch 2 and
tr. Repeat from * around; sl st in 4th ch of ch-6.
Rnd 7: Sl st in next sp, ch 6, dc in same sp, * ch 3, sc in 4th dc of 7-dc group, ch 3. In next
ch-2 sp make dc, ch 3 and dc. Repeat from * around. Join last ch-3 with sl st to 3rd ch of
ch-6.
Rnd 8: Sl st in next sp, ch 5; in same place as sl st make dc, ch 2, dc, ch 2 and dc. * Ch 3,
sc in next sc, ch 3. In next sp between 2 dc make (dc, ch 2) 3 times and dc. Repeat from *
around. Join last ch-3 to 3rd ch of ch-5. Fasten off.

I have been wearing my vintage Diors - Miss Dior parfum , Diorling , Dioressence ( when I am not wearing my daily go-to scent Diaghilev . I am hopelessly in love with it and never want to wear anything else . I have a tiny decant of Guerlain Sous le Vent which I also adore . I just swapped for another decant which should be arriving soon , so I will be wearing my beloved Sous le Vent a little more during the Holidays .
There will be about a dozen of us here for Thanksgiving and we will have a traditional dinner of Roast Turkey with stuffing , potatoes , gravy , sweet potatoes , Acini di pepi salad , an assortment of pies .
Any ideas for original and unusual vegetable dishes ? Usually I do green beans but I'd like to do another vegetable too...

Carol,

This was like reading Urdu! LOL! I have no idea how to crochet am was in awe, reading about SEVEN HUNDRED ROSETTES? yow! I'm sure it will be absolutely gorgeous!

I am blessed this year in that my family is all AWAY! LOL! yeah, I'm mean - but I spent the entire summer hosting 'stuff' and ...I'm tired. So a few days to myself will be a birthday treat (I'm a Day After Turkey Day Baby this year - and it was also thus the year I was born)...

but! when I do have my family all around me I make a broccoli bake that drives 'em wild. For 5-6 people I have to make two huge 12x18 pans, they love it that much. Pretty simple: frozen broccoli, thawed and drained, a couple of eggs, some whole milk and flour, cheese (nothing too fancy - I use sharp cheddar and mozzarella), a dash of nutmeg and some red pepper for a zing. You can also do it with spinach but my boys prefer broccoli. It's super-easy and well-loved...and you can make it in advance and reheat (the 'souffle' isn't the important part)

xoxoA

ps. Glad to see you're wearing the Diors! I'm reviewing the new Diorling today - if you have time, stop by!

Carol, that tablecloth will be fabulous. Lucky are the future recipients of such an heirloom.

I just want to say that, in case I don't get to stop by before Thanksgiving, that I hope you and your family have a wonderful time. I'm going to my niece's this year and will probably bring a sweet potato cheesecake (with semi-sweet chocolate marbling), so my mind isn't too much on vegetables...

One more thing: I love the kitty pictures!!

Be well & have a happy!

Carol, if you want an original and unusual vegetable dish that's also easy, I'd recommend roasting some fennel. It's so tasty and you can find a number of good recipes on the Internet. I like Giada de Laurentis's recipe the best because it's simple, not too fattening (some recipes call for too much cheese, but her's is just right). Just Google "Giada de Laurentis roasted fennel with parmesan." :-)

I have hankies and pillowcases with crocheted edges done by my grandmother and great aunt in the 60's! I still use the hankies, but not the pillowcases. So I too am in awe of your tablecloth. Learning to crochet is on my bucket list.

Have a very wonderful Thanksgiving, although I'm sure I'll be back around before then.
Hugs,
Donna
